BC / School catchments

Check the school catchment before choosing a home.

Start with the home’s full address, not the nearest school. A catchment identifies a school’s geographic attendance area; the school district is the organisation responsible for its schools.

01 — Check the exact address

Use the district’s official locator with the complete street address and unit where applicable. A street can cross a boundary. A nearby school, a listing description or a range of street numbers is not confirmation that this home belongs to that catchment.

02 — Match the year and programme

Check the school year you need and distinguish the regular programme from French Immersion or other choice programmes. Do not assume a regular catchment also establishes eligibility for a separate programme.

03 — Confirm admission with the district

Treat address assignment and admission as separate questions. Ask the district about the current registration process, required documents and any placement limitations before relying on a school in your home decision.

04 — Compare the homes, not just the school names

Keep the checked school year, programme and source beside each address. Add questions about the trip to school and everyday amenities. Leave missing answers marked as unknown instead of treating them as advantages.
